I had two problems with finding drapery rods for my kitchen dining area. The first problem was that the builder didn't center the windows on the wall. I notice this and it bothered me, but no one else even notice. I wanted to put drapes up and thought it would disguise the problem. The second problem was the two walls were at a 45 degree angle. Custom rods were way too expensive! I have a collection of vintage copper pots displayed above the kitchen cupboards so I wondered if I could use something copper.
I love the patina of old copper! Well, as I thought of using copper pipe, I didn't like the fact that it was very shiny. I did some research online and found something that would give it an aged look.
So I bought the lengths of copper pipe that I needed and a 45 degree piece for the bend. When we aged them, they came out blotchy. My husband took some steel wool and evened them out.
They turned out perfect and I spent only $25.00 for the two copper pipes, connecting pieces, and drapery brackets for hanging. (the brackets I spray painted a copper color as they really didn't show anyway. I am really happy the way they turned out and will probably use the idea again in a bedroom.
