We have ( acutally I have ) decided to paint our kitchen. I convinced my husband to do it..The picture below is the original kitchen when we bought the house. It has been almost 9 years since we moved in and the kitchen needed some make up.This was my kitchen. It had a natural brown like wood cabinets. Since the kitchen is a little dark during the day we decided to paint it for a white or creme color to make it look brighter.
We did some color search and decided to buy water based wood paint. It was easy to apply, dry time was short and didn't smell much.
We have removed the cabinet doors to paint. Then removed everything in the kitchen and started to paint the cabinets.
It was a lot more work than I expected. We used every spare time and every offer to help.
A lot of sanding, painting and repainting... We have sanded the doors first. Then cleaned them with a damp cloth and painted the doors 4-5 coats each.
Our little one did help too..
We gradually installed the dried doors to its place. This was the second week since we have started our project. Then came the lower part of the kitched.
This was the painted kitchen. The hardest part was to choose the tiles and to apply it on the wall. The backside ( the backsplash part) still needed to have something. That was the hardest and longest part for me. I couldn't decide which color or what type of tile should I use..So we made some trips to stores and places to find the "that's it!" type of backsplash.
And I found it.
The seller said "if you have painted your kitchen then you can apply the backsplash too". Since the kitchen is not a standart shape we had to cut it with a tile cutter. Then we glued them directly to the wood wall with a glue gun. And it worked.
Here is a detail of the the finished kitchen.
It is easy to clean and more bright then it was before.
Note: We have finished this project in a month working only weekends. The messy part was to cut the tiles. There was an increadiblye huge dust coming from the tiles during the cutting process. Even the bedrooms were full of dust even I closed all the doors. But this was the inevitable part and I think the result is worth ito try.
Thank you :)
