So in order to organize, sort and keep track of exactly what batteries I had in the house, I decided to build my own organizing rack.
I laminated 2 boards of stock lumber together, drilled the right size holes in them, and then glued a third board to the bottom to create the base.
Now I will always have a place to look for my batteries, and I will know exactly what I have on hand. This simple design holds:
10 D-Batteries
50 AA-Batteries
39 AAA-Batteries
10 C-Batteires
Plus an area for button batteries, a battery tester and 9 Volts.
Full details on all the dimensions as well as the supply sheet and cut list can be found: http://www.thekimsixfix.com/2016/01/diy-solid-wood-battery-organizing-center.html
A bonus of this design is that the batteries don't roll around in the bottom of the junk drawer and get damaged.

I mapped out the right layout to fit all the batteries and then selected the correct size drill bits to create the right size holes. Details here: http://www.thekimsixfix.com/2016/01/diy-solid-wood-battery-organizing-center.html
