How to Age Brass the Easy Way

If you've got shiny brass fixtures anywhere in your home, and you feel like you need to get out the sunglasses because it's so blindingly over the top, here's a super-easy way to get the mellow look of aged brass for under $10.

You will need 1 tube of Rub’N Buff in Spanish Copper, a soft cloth, and a small, stiff paintbrush (please see label for complete instructions before use):

1. Make sure surfaces are clean first. Use in well-ventilated area. If working on a piece like my headboard, you may want to use painter’s tape where the brass meets the painted surfaces to avoid smearing it onto the rest of the piece.

2. Using a soft cloth to apply, squeeze small amount onto cloth. Lightly wipe the Rub’N Buff on, being sure not to allow glaringly visible streaks to remain and making sure you get it into all of the crevices. You’ll want to use a small, stiff paint brush to get into those recessed areas.

3. After allowing initial coating to dry slightly, go back and layer on more Rub’N Buff, using more of a dabbing motion that will blend away any remaining streakiness.
4. Let dry for at least a few hours.
