If Sitting Backwards on the Toilet is Wrong, I Don't Want to Be Right.

Our master bathroom has this tiny toilet room which is great, but considering how much time I spend hiding from my kids in there, it was sort of BLAH. The cabinet that goes over the toilet (see below) seems to really take up a lot of space in the room and made it feel smaller and darker. Not only that, but those things are a pain to clean around!
I decided to upgrade the room so it had more storage, better organization, and pretty decor. I think our overall cost was less than $30 which was awesome and it wasn't terribly time consuming either. Now I can hide in here and appreciate the updates... although I may need to start sitting backwards on the toilet to get the best view!

Here's our before picture. Meh.





I covered the back of the toilet with a garbage bag and repainted the room with a satin paint that I found in the clearance section. It was pretty close to our original paint color (except that was flat paint which is TERRIBLE to wipe down) so I didn't stress too bad about getting behind the toilet as it wasn't super obvious if I missed a spot.





My husband cut the wood for these shelves and I painted them before he installed them. I LOVE how they came out. I know I see a lot of floating shelf ideas, but these were put up by screwing wood into the wall flat, then laying the shelf on top and screwing that to the base pieces (I hope that makes sense, I've got more details about it on my blog: http://www.diydanielle.com/2016/01/shelving-decor-organizing-toilet-room.html) or feel free to ask questions.
I've got three fabric bins that I stole from another room in the house that hold toilet paper, feminine products, and medicine (highest shelf). I added some extra decor items that I had laying around. I LOVE how it looks now.
