Reuse Those Eggshells And Grow A Little Green!

Don't toss those eggshells--here's a couple of ideas to reuse and recycle them!

I got chickens last spring and I have to tell you, I never thought I would be so enamored with them. They each have their own personality and I can easily spend hours watching them. Even when I'm at work I can spy on them via my Chicken Cam. You can too over on my blog (direct link: http://www.greenthumbwhiteapron.com/chicken-cam/)! I have a camera inside in the coop and another outside in the run so you'll never miss a moment of the girls doing their chicken stuff! Stop by and say hi to the girls!

Everyday is an Easter Egg hunt around here! My girls lay the most beautifully colored eggs I've ever seen. And though I may be a little partial, I think they are also the tastiest too.

But the cycle doesn't end there! I use eggshells in the garden too. The calcium helps plants like tomatoes produce tastier fruit. Crush them up and add a handful to the planting hole along with your compost and fertilizer.

During the winter months, I always try to keep something green and spring-like growing. It gives me hope that Spring is just around the corner.

Wheat grass is one of the easiest things to grow and in the spirit of Easter being just around the corner, I planted some seed in egg shells. Eggs-traordinary don’t you think?

This is all you need. Just remember to prick a little hole in the bottom of the shell to allow good drainage.

Just keep the soil moist and in no time you'll have sprigs of green. I think these would make a perfect place setting for an Easter brunch! Happy planting!
